Case Study: Reconnecting through Rhythm
– by Ben Segal
When John first joined a Creative Arts 4 All session, he was hesitant and withdrawn. He expected performance, not connection.
Instead, we began with conversation, and his love of 1960s music. That shared passion became a bridge. As we connected, John began opening up about cherished childhood memories and his close relationship with his father.
Over time, he was drawn to drumming, building confidence each week. He eventually bought his own drum and became a regular, arriving early, helping others, and fully embracing his creativity.
John’s story shows how music and meaningful engagement can support emotional healing and build community in hospital settings.
